My buddy's got an AWD V8 Explorer, and wants to get it to be 4WD. But he's not got the money for a new Atlas II Transfer Case.
I read in an offroad magazine that Explorers and Bronco II's can use the same engine, you can put the engine from one in the other without too much hard work, maybe just changing the mounting points....
Well, he was wondering if maybe you could do the same with the transfer case? I offered him the suggestion, but wasn't too sure. I told him I'd ask ya'll on here.
The rangers, BII's and the Explorers all used either a borg-warner 13-50 or 13-54 dependin on year... if you're buddy's got a V8 in hiw Explorer, you CANNOT use any of these T-cases behind it, NOW, there is a "Brown Wire Mod" to make the current t-case selectable between 2wd or awd, that's as close as you're gonna get without spending gobs of money......
for the mod how-to, go to http://www.explorerforum.com, and search for "brown wire mod". Hope this helps ya some buddy.
yes, Bronco II's and Explorers have compatible t-cases, but until to the 1994 Model Year on the Explorer and Ranger. The Bronco II ended production in 91 I believe. so his newer V8 AWD Explorer will NOT be able to use a BW1354 or BW1350 t-case (came stock in early 90's Explorers)...... now, you may be able to use a 4WD t-case out of a V6 SOHC Explorer of the same generation (body style), but I'm not sure on that, all my knowledge is of the early 90's Explorers.
When I was doing my 302 swap in my Ranger I'm sure I read somewhere(James Duff or MRE) that the stock t-case would handle the power of a V-8(I could be wrong here so research it a little)as I went with the C-6 tranny, there where no adapters available. Like said before try http://broncoii.org/fordforum/index.php?

or evenhttp://www.rangerresource.net/IPB/index.php?act=idx
lots of people at any one of those websites have done swaps like this at one time or another......
