Dodge Ram SST rear axle

does anybody know what rear axle sits under a 98 1500 sst? my 9.25 went out and im gonna try and swap, but before i run out to look at it id like to have an idea.

Whats an SST? why not just get another 9 1/4 like you have.

the ss/t the 2wd sport version of the 1500 like the svt lightning for fords . but thats what im trying to figure out if it has the 9 1/4

i would just put the 9 1/4 back in or the dana 60/70 conversion

i know im asking a question that i could find the answer through a bit of searching but is there anything special involved with the conversion

The 8 1/4 has a round rear cover and ten bolts while the 9 1/4 has a twelve bolt cover and an octogon shape. heres a site with some pics that may help. As for bolting in, it outta be just take off the u-bolts, and roll the other one in.

My only concern, would be the rear d-shaft may not be the same. But thats a simple fix.

Its a 9.25. Check the sticker under your hood.... it may be 3.91 geared being as it is a sst....

ok i picked it up and it is a 9 1/4 the only difference is the brake setup is a little different and the yoke looks a little different im gonna get into the swap this weekend hopin that itll require little modification if any if you guys have any suggestions or tips id appreaciate it

Start spraying down all bolts a day ahead of time with PB blaster! that will help alot.

What ramaford said. Hose that puppy down with some PB... makes worlds of difference. The earlier the better.
