I have a 1998 Dodge ram 1500 4X4. I'm looking to upgrade the steering to something better on a budget. As mine is on the verge of complete failure. I believe I have the inverted Y style now will the inverted T style off a newer Truck fit? I am opened to suggestions.
Thanks

RE: Dodge Ram 1500 Steering
check the "Tech" section above, there is a thread on it. Essentially it's a 1998 3/4 ton HD steering setup, inverted T, much better than stock inverted Y. You can also search heim steering setups by Thuren, or Chevy TRE setups from RuffStuff, etc etc. Do some research, there are a ton of good threads on this already
Not sure how much of a budget your looking at but I just finished my thuren install tonight. It is night and day between what I had and whats under there now. Its really only a couple hundred bucks over the cost of replacing the factory steering. Cant say from what ive seen yet but everyone I have heard from so far say the heims last a long time on his setup.
Quote:Here are the part numbers for those of you that are "searchtarded" or may be just finding out about this upgraded factory HD crossover steering setup:
MOOG Part #ES2012S (tie rod adjuster sleeve)
MOOG Part #DS1456 (passenger tie rod)
MOOG Part #DS1459 (drag link)
MOOG Part #ES3496 (drivers side tie rod end)
MOOG Part #ES3497 (drag link tie rod end)
MOOG Part #ES3498S (drag link adj sleeve)
DLZ brand is crap, dont buy em unless u wana replace in a month or two and thats if u dont wheel often... I made the mastake of buying this stuff and had to replace after not to long. Never be cheap with stuff that can send u into a tree when it breaks. Just take the part numbers, print out the Rockauto.com prices and go to autozone for a price match. Somethin like 300 bucks will buy the upgrade and Its all Moog anyways with a lifetime warranty
