Dodge Hub Warning
01-28-2006, 12:02 PM
Post: #1

I replaced a hub a couple months ago. Something seemed wrong from day one. I just couldn't figure it out until I replaced it today. It is a cheap one from Advance Auto Parts. See if you can see the problem... Baby

The brake rotor seemed to be riding too deep to me. The tin shield was rubbing and driving me nuts. Here's a close-up of the problem.... Baby

Seems the bearing wasn't completely pressed in. I have marked it red where it sticks up too high... Check you new hubs before installing them is the lesson learned... Baby

The mounting was seated into the knuckle. With the bearing the way it is, it pulled the lugs too far in. It's hard to see, but the first pic shows it... Baby

Here's how it affected the rotor.... The red lined area is approx. 1/4" too close. If the bearing was pressed right, this area would have had the clearance... Baby

I'm gonna be doing mine soon - any recommendations on good brands and/or where to get them?
