I don't need a battery and hope I don't for a while but I was looking through them on Advance autos site and was just wondering what the difference between the Optima Red top and Yellow top ones are? It looks like you can get them each with the same cold cranking amps. Just wondering what the difference is and which one is best?

skip them, their quality isnt the greatest anymore.
every week at The 'Zone, we take in about 45-50 batteries, typically on that pallet there are usually 2-3 Optimas. so for a store that stocks 150-200 regular batteries and only 3 Optimas, thats pretty significant. the one guy that i warrantied his battery out for the first time after 1 year, returned the 2nd one after 3 weeks.
All of our equipment (read 300+) at work have red tops, and we have peen running them for 10+ years, with few problems. The only issue we run into is if you let the equipment sit with the batteries connected for 5-6 months sometimes the batteris discharge so much it is impossible to recharge them with a conventional charger, and you must recondition them. I am currently running 2 yellow tops with no problems, powers my winch and stereo system just fine. Guess it also helps to have the tow package with 150 amp alternator
Yeah.. I have Yellow Top's in my Ram and Pig.. both have been flawless.
The downside is that they ARE expensive.. and just went up last summer. The place I got mine has never had one come back (Keystone Auto owned).
When the Ram get's traded... that is one of the first things to come OUT of the truck aside from my stereo stuff. And if I do actually get around to putting in a rear winch for Pig.. I will buy another Yellow for back there.
when i got my explorer i pulled my yellow top out of my blazer then when i got my ram i pulled it out of the explorer i love the yellow top its got a great reserve copasity and it has started my trucks every time Get an optima i will spend the $150 agian insted of the $80 it is for a battery
