Exclamation DT Profab Steering Brace & Borgeson Steering Unit
I didn't get any search results regarding this so a new information thread for y'all. I finally got my steering brace ordered and tried installing it a few ago. It will not fit with the Borgeson steerin box. There is about 3/8" clearance issue with the new supplied nut on the sector shaft of the steerin box and the brace. I talked to Dave over at DT Profab, He is aware of the issue and this is only the second time someone has called. He is making me a "custom" one to fit correctly while I pay to ship this brace back, He will cover shipping new one. More then fair on his part while I offered to let you fine PavementSUCKS.com members know. He is unsure whether he wants to add another part number for his retailers to shuffle with and suggests just specifying when you order the brace that you do have a Borgeson unit. I could drill out the slotted holes to fit but, the brace is as far to the passenger side of the truck as it will go and all the trouble i have been having with my front end as it is...I didn't want to risk weakening the mounting brackets the least bit if that is even possible. Admittedly I don't have much tools or money and would rather not buy a drill and bits just for this project right now. Anyways, I ramble and Happy New Years folks!

Well, I don't really have an answer to that. He rambled on a bit as he thought out loud with me on the phone. So, I am not sure if he is making a whole new brace or just redoing the mounting brackets or just the bracket supporting the sector shaft on the existing brace. He had also mentioned making all braces from here on out with more adjustment to them but he wasn't sure what he was going to do as a permanent solution. I was going to package the brace I have up tomorrow, I will take some measurements and compare them to the new one when I get it to see what exactly they changed. Another side note, he mentioned that they have been thinking about becoming a Borgeson dealer as well. As a steering solution they can sell as well as they will be able to get one on our trucks and redesign the brace again. Like I said, he was really thinking out loud a lot to me. It was a pretty cool phone call and their customer service/support is pretty great in my book. This brace is very beefy and the welds look great. The powder coating has some pretty big chunks out of it but not a big deal at all. I think he mentioned they send things out for powder coating so I won't hold them on that. I also don't really care about problems like that. This part isn't very visible.

For the Borgeson box, all they have to do is move the flat plate that the bearing bolts to 3/8" to the passenger side. So it's the same brace, just barely modified.

You can take any steering brace and make it work with a Dremel and a small grinding stone. You just modify the holes that bolt the brace to the sway bar mounts so that the whole thing can slide over 3/8". Pretty easy.

Yeah the very little fab work that needs to be done is very easy for someone who has the necessary tools and can use tools that make loud noises where they live. I unfortunately misplaced my dremel when I was forced to move in a hurry in to my place now where I can't make a whole lot of noise. Also would suck to grind away the tough powder coat and either have it redone or rattle can it. I also don't know how much stress is put on the brace but in my situation taking off 3/8" just about opens up the bracket so it's a slot and not an elongated hole anymore. I might be over worried there though.

Yeah I've covered it a few times on several forums, but don't let this minor issue keep you from getting a Borgeson box. A new steering brace is coming out soon that makes all of these others obsolete and it will work with the Borgeson box. Cool

I wouldn't wait...The box is amazing. They have great customer service as well. Some how I got the only bad box they ever made and a few simple questions and I supplied a video of the problem and they sent me a new box. I ordered through KLMPerformance who also has amazing customer service and also helped with that process. Danny has great customer service too, Tongue got my DC long arms from him last year...Sorry I didn't come across your previous postings regarding this issue Danny, I did search but apparently not good enough.

Oh, no biggie! I didn't mean it like you didn't search, I was just replying to the previous post.

Hope the long arms are treating you well. I think you got one of the last sets ever made!
