Cummins: Building A Trans To Hold Up
Ok, so the 48RE is not a bad trans, as I do not have any real issues with it. With the 4.5" lift, 37" tires, and some power mods.....the torque converter is starting to shudder

My main goal right now is getting the trans completely rebuilt, and having some upgrades installed. This should happed the first week of March.....about 45 days out

A local shop will do the buildup and I will supply some of the major hard parts

So far, I bought:

-BD FleX-Plate (SFI 29.3) #1041210

http://www.dieselperformance.com/index.p...dex/20P]BD Power - Product: FleX-Plate

BD Flex Plates are Forged Billet, regular billet flex plates have no flex to them which defeats the purpose. The BD Flex Plate carries a 29.3 SFI approval rating, most other Flex Plates carry a 29.1 SFI approval rating which is a gasoline rating, not diesel like 29.3 rating is for twice the torque

-Mag Hytec Double Deep Trans Pan (+4 quarts) #727-DD

http://www.mag-hytec.com/store/index.php...5fb3]Dodge : Mag-Hytec

-Opie's Billet Input Shaft

http://www.opieparts.com/Products.htm

Here are some pics of:

BD Flexplate
Opie Billet Input
MH Double Deep Trans Pan
Sonnax Front Servo Piston Cover #22827-01
Billet 4.2 Apply Lever
Billet HD Strut

Some more parts rolled into today:

Used valve body for $90 delivered.....probably a needless purchase, but I wanted to speed up my $300 core refund, to help with the purchase of the Goerend Triple Disk TC. Plus, I already have someone lined up that bought my stock VB for $200

My Goerend VB should arrive within the next two weeks.....more pics to come!!

Sonnax Billet 4 Ring Accumulator: "New Dodge 4 Ring Billet Aluminum Accumulator Piston. Fits 46RH/RE / 47RH/RE / 48RE / 518 / 618 / 500 / 727 / 904. OE plastic accumulators are prone to breaking and have poor sealing qualities. Metal rings currently offered with aftermarket accumulators have issues with sealing as well. Dual seal accumulator piston with 2 Teflon and 2 D-rings. The Teflon seal will prevent piston to bore contact and the D-ring seal will vastly improve sealing compared to steel rings currently offered by the aftermarket

Tomorrow the following parts will be at my doorstep:
-HD Band Anchor: "The Power Wedge" 727, 518, 618, 47RE, 48RE unbreakable intermediate band anchor. OEM anchors are a compromise between functionality and cost. Their chosen material is brittle. As the band wears, the angle of the anchor changes slightly. When this occurs, pressure is applied to an area not designed to contend with it, often resulting in failure. Breakage may also occur when line pressure is increased due to performance modifications to the valve body and/or computer reprogramming. Diesel applications have a higher clamp load from different geometry of the apply lever adding even more stress. The Power Wedge is milled from a billet of super tough Tool Steel and will never suffer failure. It has the capability to handle literally tons of pressure; the customer installing one has simply eliminated another weak link.

-Billet Rear Band Servo w/ Pin: Many Dodge transmissions experience rear servo piston sticking / breakage, pin bore wear, and reverse band slippage. The servo piston has a tendency to get cocked in the bore and there is insufficient force to apply the band in a direct line. The high reverse line pressure continues to apply against a cocked piston, causing piston breakage. The bore of the piston also wears from side loading, resulting in insufficient band apply pressure

-Dodge 16% Oversize Intermediate Super Servo, Servo Cover and Pin:New eight sealing ring design for a super seal. The overall result is more holding force in 2nd, firmer 1-2 and 2-3 shifts that become firmer under load.
16% More Holding Power, Firmer 1-2 Shift, More Positive 2-3 Shift, Perfect for Heavy-Duty and Performance Applications, Red Anodized, Eight Sealing Rings

Thanks, I am hoping it will also be a great unit, especially when matched with the Goerend valve body

Goerend sells two triple disk converters:
Lifetime Warranty: $1295
100,000 Mile Warranty: $1050

For $200 more, the lifetime seems like a deal

However, they are BOTH the same, identical TC.

I am not sure if I will own my truck for 100,000 more miles, since I only put 8,000 miles on my truck each year

Save $200 or spend $200 ??????????? Dunno

RE: Cummins: Building A Trans To Hold Up
i went lifetime with mine ... 100,000 on the trans and life on the tc ....

my truck is not going anywhere .... about the only way i get rid of it is if it gets totaled in an accident ..... if i am even in a situation where i need a truck with a larger cab i will buy one but this truck wont get traded in so i figured i would go with the lifetime unit
