Borg Warner T56 on an 4x4

Anyone ever run Borg Warner T56 on a 4x4? I think the extra 6th gear would be nice for a daily driver especially when you're geared down.

I havent heard of anyone. I quess the biggest isssue to overcome is getting and adapter to allow a Tcase to be bolted to it.

You could run a divorced setup. I doubt the gearing of the trans is good for 4x4s though

What kind of gear's is everyone running for a trail rig? I'm planning on building up my Yota, I'm definately not new to fourwheeling, but I'm still learning all the in's and out's of the the tech side of it. I usually just used whatever works!

I bet the gearing would be fine. It has most likely got a pretty low first gear considering it is the tranny of choice for the Corvette, Viper, and the late F-Bodies. That would be nice to have a double overdrive too for highway use. I'd check w/ Advanced Adapters to see if they make an adapter to mount a T-Case to one.

nope. IF you ran it in a 4wd, you would need to run a divorced setup, or find someone to modify the tail housing to fit a tcase. trust me ive looked. ive got a t56 in my charger and have a 4472 awd tcase that i want to put in it. i just dont wanna spend the money on more custom machine work after the machine work i had to get done just to get the trans to bolt up.

the t56 model you would want is out of a viper. it has the best power handling at about 450 ft-lbs. the syncros however are made of paper and do not last long. this trans is FAR from bullet proof. you would be much better off with a different trans. 1st gear is only about 2.75:1. there is also NO aftermarket support for this trans.

Hawii is right. The trannys arent bullet proof. Im shocked they hold up to the viper. They are rated at 450 foot pounds. Even the aftermarket 6 speeds by richmond are only rated to 450 foot pounds. I doubt they would hold up to deep gear and big tires. This is why I had to go with an auto in my Monte.

Ok, What manual tranny should I look for, sort of along those same lines?

i dont think you will find any 6 speed trans to be very strong. the t5 i believe is a much stronger trans, buy you may want to look at the new venture trans. actually NV makes a 6 speed for the cummins HO. maybe you could get that.

I had looked at the NV4500, was pretty impressed, I really don't want (or need) that "granny" first though. With the kind of reduction I've got I shouldn't need it. The problem is my truck is still a daily driver and I do have to get some highway miles in occasionally, which is where it would be great to have that extra overdrive.
