Hey guys im looking to do a sas on my 94 gmc stepside i have a d60 out of an 89 f350. i would like to know what hanger kit i should get and what lift and tire size i should go with i would like to put the biggest tires on it that i can without them sticking out past the fenders.
if you're only planning on going with 1 ton axles I wouldn't go any bigger then a 44" tire. But lift size and tires is up to you and your own personal choice or opinion. The hang can either be made or there are a few companies that make SAS kits. I bought my front brackets from a company Then put everything else together myself. My friend with a gmc built his own front hangers.
Here's a picture of my chevy that I sas'd and his sas'd gmc. His truck was still mid-build during this picture. But he's finished it now.
thanks for the post. i would like to put 44s on it but i dont want them to stick out much if any at all. i would put fender flares on it if i could find them for a stepside truck. another thing is the spring pad width on my axle is 36.5 and idk if i would run into any trouble with the tires hitting the springs.

you shouldn't have problems with the tire rubbing. You can adjust the amount your wheel sticks out also with a the amout of backspacing on the wheels you use. I had custom wheels fabbed up with almost no back spacing to get my tires out farther.
but i still dont want em to stick out much, im gonna run the truck on the road and the cops around here are real dicks when it comes to tires stickin out. anyone know where i could get flares for a stepside?
If you plan on running 44" tires on a daily driver I think you might have more legal problems that just tires sticking out. What are the bumper height laws? headlight laws? Lift laws? for your state?
i live in wv i think the bumper height is 36" or something so your almost over that with a stock pickup but the cops dont give anyone any trouble with height they just have a hardon for tires that stick out for some reason.

RE: 94 gmc solid axle swap
you cannot get 44's to not stick out of the fenders, first off that axle is a 36" spring perch spacing so you cannot bring the tire inward, the other issue is the bend in the frame just before the front of the cab.
even if you were able to bring the tires in by going with a custom 4 link or something of that sort, you would need a incredible amount of lift to keep from hitting the frame, then there is the problem of getting steering to work with that kind of angle much less a driveshaft.
