My first post here, thanks for such an informative site.
1985 F250 4x4. 460, Dana 70 rear and TTB Dana 44 front. Open diffs. T19 and BW1345. Old farm truck, now mine and a project vehicle. I have new 285/75R16's on it, so basically 33's. I have some rub at full steering lock and need to lift it a bit. It's drivable now but it needs to happen. In searching around I have found several 2 1/2 inch lifts that claim to be just the thing for this application but I have no desire to waste money. I need it solid, and workable without breaking the bank. What do you all suggest. 2 1/2, 4? What make? How to save a buck?
Hey man. Welcome to the site. Sounds like a cool truck but I hate TTB front ends. They are tough, but crude as hell and more expensive to lift. If it were mine, I'd be looking to swap a Dana 60. But as far as lifts go, I have never had problems with TGC.
It looked like 75 bucks at first to me too!! Ah well. I had the exhaust rebuilt today. I had told the guy to run the duals through glasspacks and run them on the same side. Turning and exiting behind the right rear wheel. Instead, he ran the duals down the right side and has them exiting straight back and one on either side. I have to admit this was a better plan. It looks good and sounds killer. I hope there is clearance for a larger gas tank. If not I'll just have him modify it. Next stop will be to have the front end worked on. Ball joints for sure and maybe rod ends. We will see. It is for sure loosey goosey. I found a new cowling piece today too. The project continues.
As to the original question, I would be more than happy to find a solid way to lift this booger that is less expensive.
