i have a 66 I p0lan on putting the 304 out of my J-truck in it. I do believe you have to relocate the mounts. I haven't really taken any measurments as of yet. I a$$ume you have the over head cam tornado I6 corect? That engine from what I hear is junk but I have no personal experience with it yet since I just got the 66 and haven't even started it yet, If I get into the swap any time soon I will relay any information over to you I think may be usefull.

I like I6's for the torque they put out however if you got the tornado replace it. I have heard as well from pepole that it sucks.

Engine swap shouldnt be to hard depending on the tranny you have if you have a 727 torqueflite (not sure if those came in 66) then the option are open to the Chrysler or AMC 360, 318, or my personal fav 440

If not you can just source the engine/tranny/Transfer case of your choice in there. Just have to fab some stuff.

Enjoy your FSJ i love mine wouldnt trade for a smaller jeep ever. Of course im fat so that maybe one reason Very Happy

FWIW... If you do in fact have the TF727, then it's the AMC 727, not the Mopar/Chrysler 727. I believe they have different mounting patterns, and a Mopar 360 will not bolt up to an AMC 727 & vice versa. I ran into this problem a few times when I was trying to find a motor for my '79 ramcharger. I could only find AMC 360's, and they wouldn't work.

I bleive that was a problem in the earlier RC's and Waggy's however i have run all the casting numbers on my engine tranny and t case. I do in fact have chrysler 727 with a AMC 360 i dont when this possible or if i have a freak of nature or what (research on these things have gone real slow)

Any way. i have a 1984 and they put three diffrent motors (from what i have found) in those. The chrysler 360 AMC 360 and an I6 i belive it was a cross over or near cross over year from AMC to Chrysler dont know for sure. I dont really care either after this motor takes a dump she's probably going to get a ford drive train in its place. 390,C6 and havent decided on T Case
