i would like to pick up the HP and TQ in my 5.2...but not exactly sure whats able to be done, or what i should look into doing...i wanna reach like 350...its a DD so nothing crazy is needed...anyways, i have exhaust parts...header back all upgraded...i have upgraded intake...what else should i do to reach that goal...should i do roller rockers and cam? just a cam? just rockers? any help would be appreciated greatly...let me know asap...thanx
I would start with and R/T cam. that plus exhaust (with headers) and a good air intake should put you around 300HP. the problem is wverything you do to increase HP moves where it makes it further up the RPM range. My next buy would be a good set of heads, with maybe just bowl porting. The Heavy Duty aftermarket castings are nice, they flow better than the R/T heads. Thats all the stuff I am doing ot my 5.2. Have all the parts sitting inthe garage if i can ever get around to building my motor.
yeah i dont want to push the power to high up the rpm level.. i want low end grunt.. but the thing is your max torque will be much lower level than max hp. but if you increas hp you usually increase torque.. let us know what you do to your motor and how it works for you..
ive been told to look into the R/T cam...is it worth getting roller rockers with the R/T cam as well...i dont want to pull heads off and replace them but what can i do to the existing ones i own now?...exhaust is all purchased...headers back all new...intake will be upgraded to the K&N intake...i want low to midrange...any other interesting ideas to throw in there
BTW. you dont have to pull the heads to change the rockers. just take of the valve covers.. but to change the cam out comes the rockers pushrods and lifters. then have to pull the radiator to be able to get the cam out.
with everything listed in my sig I'm only putting 225 (about) to the ground.
You'll be needing forced induction (or stroker kit) to reach 350 hp without putting the powerband so high that it's useless. IMHO.
In addition to what's in my sig, I'd get some heads, modded kegger intake (to retain low end), mild cam, and 1.6:1 roller rockers.
with just about any small block other than forced induction and stroking it, the only way to make major power gains is in the heads and cam.You can add the 1.7 rockers if you really dont want to pull the cam but it will cost about the same as pulling the cam which is worth doing, and comes with some added benefits like you get to replace your timing chain, which on any engine with more than 70k on the clock should be done anyways.
