327 heads on a 350

I am looking to get more power out of my 350, it is a 74 350, and i have heard about putting 327 heads on a 350. I was just wondering what this does, and how much power it will give me.

I don't know much about the internals of motors, but I've always heard that if you put 305 heads on a 350 it'll give you more compression. I would think that the 327 and 305 heads are the same since a 327 is basically a stroked out 305. Hope that helps!

Yes, thanks, what year 305 heads are good, i heard something about the 64cc heads. Also, do you need to do any modifications to the heads or anything to make it work?

It will raise the comperssion ratio which will give you more power. You can divide the volumn in the cylinder by the volumn in the new cylnderhead to get your new compression ratio.

On the negative side, poor mileage and you can forget about being able to burn any low octain fuel once you do it, because it will detonate. You'll need to burn only high octain fuel.

If you do it make sure your surfaces are flat, and torque then down right.

You also need to check the new heads lineup with the intake manifold you have.

it's a bored out 283. They came along before the 305/350 I believe.

Correct, the 327 came out in the Early 1960s... 305 Heads on a 350 will cause you to run High Octane or you risk Detonation... 327 Heads will work and still be able to use Regular and Mid Grade gasoline... Also make sure the heads can run on unleaded fuel by having Hardened Valve Seats

327 heads have a 64cc chamber. 305 heads have 58cc chamber. One thing to remember 305 heads run really small valves, so what you gain in compression you might lose in flow.

Correct also, LG4 Low Output 305s got 1.72 Intake Valves and 1.50 Exhaust Valves, while the L69 305s with Camaro Cross Fire Cylinder Heads had 1.84 Intake Valves and 1.50 Exhaust Valves and slightly better flow

If you run 305 heads on a 350 one of the water jacket holes has to be dremeled out, if not the hole in the 305 head will be about half blocked and cause the heads to run hot.
