Put one together a little ways back. Ended up having a bad temp sensor so it's no longer in the truck. Didn't send in the controller in time to have it warrantied, so I'm waiting until after the V10 swap. Not sure I can get away with the V8 radiator. Might be interested in selling the whole unit. Controller works, just has to be controlled off the A/C lead with a switch.
I took off my mechanical fan and installed a single 16 inch fan with a simple homemade mount and a mechanical switch. I almost never use it. It is hot here, in the 90's and I still get away without the fan. Only if I am stuck in traffic and see the temperature gage climbing do I turn it on and then the temp drops quickly.
I put (2) sensors on mine, the rad temp sensor and I put an inline one on the tranmission line, so the fan turns on if the trans gets to 190. plus the manual on/off switch.
The trans cooler on these trucks is way off on the driver side, and if the engine is running cool the clutch fan is off and the trans just cooks.

Thought each controller had a different OHM rating. Mine is a PermaCool with an adjustable temp setting. Didn't think I could replace it with just anything.
They temperature switches are just just set to close the circuit when the sensor reaches a set temp. You can buy them so they are adjustable..or preset.
You don't need to stick with a particular manufacture either, you can mix and match.
Most fans have several control hook up's which can be both ground or positive to turn the main relay on or off.
The sensors you can find at most speed shops, and you can get them preset. For example I got the sensor for my radiaitor preset at 190 because I have a CTD.

I removed my mech fan and put in a 17" single elec fan with a temp switch in the radiator and an a/c cut-on switch. I live in NC where we have had several 100* days and my temp gauge rises very quickly anytime I stop or drive in town.
