1996 GMC Jimmy - Turn signal flash location??????

Sup all... well my 1996 GMC Jimmy no longer has turn signals.. If i put on left or right i get NOTHING!!!!
I was told that it will be the turn signal flasher that is bad. My wife picked one up. I found the fuse box which is when you open the driver side door right there on the side of the dash..... but the turn signal flasher is not there.......

so my father said put the hazzards on and you will hear that click.. he said locate the click by putting your ear around and figure out where it is... well i think it is behind the ash tray.. BUT I CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET IN THERE!!!!!!

is that where it is or is it somewhere else?
thanks

check under the dash behind the parking brake, i think they out them there for a while, or right above it. most of the stuff is in that corner

Are you referring to the flasher unit itself? I had to change mine in my '97 last week. It, too, was working intermittently. It, and the emergency flasher unit, are mounted horizontally just to the left of the lighter socket. I removed that panel with about 6 screws. Whole job took less than 10 minutes for a complete mechanical idiot.
