Big Grin 1992 Nissan D21 Pickup 4x4 Help
Vehicle in question
1992 Nissan D21 Pickup 4x4
2.4L Inline Four Cylinder

Problem
Vehicle will not start! When you turn the key in the ignition to the first point all of your lights will come on including radio. Also, at this point you can hear the fuel pump priming for the start (the buzzing from the fuel system). However, when you put the key all the way forward nothing happens! Absolutely nothing!

Problem Solving
When I first got the Nissan it had a faulty battery, would not hold charge and required a jump at each start. Battery was replaced with new from Duralast. However, even with the new battery it only started four times before it gave up (same day).

After using AutoZone's Troubleshooter I replaced the Ignition Switch. Same issue, nothing changed.

Answer To Problems
You tell me! Thanks

I am not a Nissan guy but it sounds like a connection issue. Did you check battery connections on both ends?

And we was fined $50 and had to pick up the garbage in the snow, but thats not what I came to tell you about.

Answer to "The Dude"
Reseated the battery twice, cleaned terminals, and inspected for any visual cuts in the wires leading from the terminals. Nothing appears faulty...
Not sure how to check the wires themselves for proper power.

More Information
Before the Nissan stopped working it had started twice then died as I go to take off. The third time I tried to start the vehicle this problem came to be.
After a little online search I came across the Clutch Switch and Interlock. Could either of these be my issue?

More Information
Just today I had managed to get the vehicle started by pushing it about 10MPH with my brothers Bronco. After releasing the clutch the truck instantly started, no hesitation what so ever. With this information can you guys help me? I am taking the vehicle to a repair shop tomorrow around 2PM Arizona Time.

After we turned the truck off in front of my house we then tried to restart the vehicle. At first attempt the vehicle made a very brief attempt to start, maybe one or two cranks, then stopped. On a second try nothing happens as normal.

I'd check voltage at the starter and voltage drop across. Without a voltmeter I'd just jump the starter with a "known good" battery. Power at the main wire and the exciter wire. Ground right to the case.

Problem Solved!
How? Don't ask!
Went outside today preparing to tow the Nissan to a repair shop for diagnostics...However when I got behind the wheel and turned the key the darned thing started right up! No hesitation what so ever.
Anyway, knowing I had a problem I decided to take it to a shop and get a diagnostic, since it went above my mechanic level.

After waiting three hours they called informing me that the vehicle was in tip top condition. Since they could not find the problem, I was not charged. Since then I have started the vehicle roughly ten times without issue. Maybe something got wet and shorted out? No idea. Just add some more money to my savings and cross my fingers.

Thanks everyone for your replies!

RE: 1992 Nissan D21 Pickup 4x4 Help
The problem has returned again!
New battery & checked voltage
New plugs & wires
New ignition switch
Check voltage at starter - okay
Checked voltage on the ground at the block, shows voltage??

Just today I managed to remove the starter from the truck for testing tomorrow at Autozone. Will reveal the results! Stay tuned..and send advice if you have had a similar problem that you managed to repair.
