I have not done very much reserch yet on this yet but I have run into a problem. Im in the process of swaping out my 10 bolt in my Tahoe and putting in a 14 bolt semi float. The problem I just ran into is that the axle shafts are pitted so I had my work order some used ones from a selvage yard. I was unsure of what my axle came out of and the year but was given to me from someone my boss knew. So I got some axles for a 1994 Chevy 2500 14 bolt semi float rear. The problem is I went to put them in and they are too long. I mesured the axle shafts that are from the axle I want to put under my truck and they mesure 31 1/2" long. The ones I got are 33" long. Im going to be going to a scrap yard tomorow morning and would like to know what im supose to be getting my axles out of. Any help would be great. I am looking around right now to see what I can come up with but figured I would post here first since you guys tend to know alot. Thanks.
Sounds like you got axles out of a 4wd and the rear end you have is a 2wd. I know that the 2wd 14 bolt semi-floater is narrower than the 4wd. I ran into that a while back. I don't know the specific axle lengths.
Thanks guys. I did look around and thats about the only thing I could come up with is that it was the difference between 2 and 4 wheel drive. Thanks for the quick responses I knew you guys would know .

Sorry to butt into this coversation.......??.....Is the 14 bolt SF in 2WD as strong as the FF version in a 4x4 ???? I was thinking of putting a 14SF into my 2WD '93.......thanks
not even close, a 14 bolt sf is a 9.5" gear and is much weaker than the 10.5" full floating axle that is actually stronger than a dana 70
the ff also only comes as a 8 lug so if you need 6 lug then you may get lucky and find the custom hubs that were out on the market years ago
...but would the 14SF be able handle about 525 HP in my 2WD?
If not I would have to put something else back there ???? I cant use a FF due to the wheels I have....
it must be able to as the 454ss has a 5 lug version of the 9.5 and many of the 454ss racers run 502's and bigger , i don't know what they run for a carrier, i know the eaton posi they come with likes to break.
