10 Bolt And 12 Bolt Rear Axle ?

Whats the difference between a 10 bolt and a 12 bolt rear axle ?, is the 12 bolt a lot stronger than a 10 bolt ?.

the 12 bolt truck axle is weaker than the 10 bolt truck axle. it has smaller pinion bearings

Are you sure? I have never heard of that.

Either way, the 12 bolt does have a larger R&P as well as axle shafts, so I guess it would be a trade off. If I had to chose one I would chose a 12 bolt.

The 12 bolt has a 8 5/8 ring gear with 12 little 3/8
bolts holding it to the carrrier( you will break them ) with 30 spline axles
the 10bolt is a 8 1/2 ring gear ( not much smaller )
and 10 , half inch bolts holding it to the carrier, with 28 spline axle,, unless you get the 88 -91 blazer or suburban ,they come with 30 sline axles.

but what you need is a 14 bolt semi float,,
9 1/2 ring gear, half inch bolts. and ( i think )
33 spline axle shaft.

Rip off Rolling Eyes sorry man, you can get a FF with discs and a detroit for $500. I paid $50 at the local PnP for mine.
