05 dodge 2500 front axle problem

Hello,
New guy to the site. I have a 2500 dodge 4x4 cummins. Recently the truck started to make a wierd noise at in the front drivers side wheel area. kind of a poping. Today i pulled it apart and checked it out. looks like the u joint needs to be replaced. After i pulled it all aparts I noticed that the axle moved around alot inside the axle tube. So i pulled the axle out to inspect it. to my suprise there is no bearing on the outside near the u joint. Does the bearing assy. inside the rotor act as the outside bearing for the axle ?? I was suprised not to see a bearing there, I was for sure that was what was causing the poping sound. Just want to check before i go back together with it.

Thats normal. Only the hub assembly. No bearing attached to the shaft
